Whoever your Web Designer is/was may have (or may not have) done a good job at designing your website in an aesthetically pleasing way but 98% of them are clueless about how to build your website in a truly SEO Friendly way. This which actually much more important than having a fancy website because you can have the nicest/coolest site in the world but if no one can find it when they are searching for your product, services, or industry; it's not going to do you any good.
That is not meant to put your Web Designer down. It's just not their specialty. Most SEO Experts don't build websites. That's because Web Designers and SEO Experts are usually very different kind of people. Designers are very artistic and right brain dominant while SEO Experts tend to be more technical and left brain dominant. I happen to be one of those rare finds that actually enjoys both. Imagine you build race cars, and you know how to make them go really fast. Then image someone comes to you with a Cadillac or an Oldsmobile Station Wagon and says "make it go fast." You might be able to make it go fast but not nearly as fast as you could make it go if you had build the vehicle from scratch with the purpose of making it run fast. That is the best analogy I can think of to explain why it is so beneficial to have an SEO expert like myself build your website, assuming you can find one that actually builds websites like I do.
Not to toot my own horn but I've been in the industry for over 15 years and I have yet to meet anyone with my skills. There must be a few out there but I have never heard of them. In fact, a large percentage of those in my industry don't even do the work themselves and instead outsource most or all of the work to guys like me... (if they are luck enough to know guys like me). Outsourcing doesn't make them a bad company but unfortunately there are a lot of scandalous SEO companies in business so please do your homework to make sure they are on the up.

How can you increase business and get new clients?
Many business owners ask me, "How can I increase my business and get new clients?" The answer is simple... Advertise! I'll be more specific. Advertise Wisely! Well that leads to the next question. Where is the wisest place to advertise? The answer is without question is GOOGLE!
The internet has dominated any and all other information sources. Some business owners still don't understand the importance of being listed on the first page of Google. These are usually small Mom and Pop or Family Ran businesses that got stuck in old fashion ways and haven't kept up with todays world. Often these are old timers that got by for years on a store front and phone book listings alone. Because that was the norm in there time it is probably likely that they are still one of the very few that actually still pick up that old dinosaur to thumb through the R's for a Refrigerator Repair Man or through the L's to look for a Locksmith to retrieve the keys they locked in their car. The world has changed drastically since those days and the majority of todays world searches online before choosing a new business to deal with. Something like 90% of America has a cell phone with internet access in there pocket at all times. Instant information is now easily available at most everybody's fingertips now a days and more and more people are using it. The average kid even has a smart phone by the age of 9 or younger. These kids and most adults wouldn't think of picking up the phone book or the yellow pages book to search for something. In the next 10 years I predict the only place you will find these information dinosaurs are in libraries.
Now a days when someone locks their keys in their car they pull out their IPhone, Blackberry or other Smart Phone and they search Google search for "Locksmiths" in their area. With Google Apps they don't even have to type anything in their phone. Google Apps allows you to just hold the talk button down and say something like: "Locksmiths in Las Vegas, NV" or "Sushi Restaurant in Burlingame, CA" and the result appear before your eyes in seconds. If you own a business thats where you want to be.
If you thinking to yourself, How can I get on the first page of Google?
Getting your business within the first page of Google is the best investment you could ever make. However, just getting on Googles first page is not good enough believe it or not. It's a lot of work and upkeep to make sure you stay there. Search engine algorithms change daily and most website get bounced out regularly to make room for someone new. The websites that don't get bounced out have been most certainly optimized to roll with the constant algorithm changes.
